DHC-8-400 – Gear (Down) Failed to Deploy

2018-03-24
C-GENM, a Bombardier DHC-8-400 aircraft operated by WestJet Encore, was conducting flight
WEN3115 from Calgary Intl, AB (CYYC) to Kamloops, BC (CYKA). During the approach to CYKA,
the landing gear did not extend when selected to the down position. The flight crew conducted a
missed approach, declared a PAN PAN, climbed to a safe altitude and completed the landing gear
alternate extension checklist. Subsequently, the landing gear was lowered successfully. The flight
landed without further issue with ARFF standing by.
The operator’s maintenance replaced the nose landing gear actuator and the aircraft was returned
to service.
