Engine Failure Two Miles From Airport

Sept. 25/14 A Diamond DA 20-A1(C-FPMC) aircraft, operated by the Waterloo-Wellington Flying Club, was on a local flight from Waterloo, ON (CYKF) to Oshawa, ON (CYOO). The pilot reported a rough running engine (Rotax 912 F3) 3 miles west of CYOO. The pilot declared an emergency with engine failure 2 miles west of the airport. The aircraft glided to an uneventful landing on the runway. There were no injuries or damage to the aircraft. Initial inspection revealed a hole in the crankcase near cylinders 1 and 2, and a broken number 2 intake valve.
