Tree Takes Out Cherokee Gear

May 17/14-On final approach to runway 23 at CYVK (Vernon Airport) the privately-registered Piper PA-28 (C-GYGG) encountered descending air and the right main landing gear struck a tree about 850 feet from the displaced threshold. During the landing roll the right main gear did not support the aircraft and the right wing settled onto the runway. The aircraft came to rest on taxiway Bravo. Neither occupant was injured but the aircraft was substantially damaged.
