Ranger Jensen is part of an eight-member team that includes Ranger Instructors, Rangers from across the North and a Search and Rescue Technician. His patrol will traverse 715 km over arctic tundra and sea ice during their journey to Alexandra Fiord and back again.

Operation Nunalivut 2009 is one of three sovereignty operations conducted annually by the Canadian Forces (CF) in Canada’s North. It employs the unique capabilities of the Canadian Rangers in support of Joint Task Force (North) operations in the extreme environment of the High Arctic. The operation runs from 30 March to 20 April out of Eureka, a remote installation on Ellesmere Island, Nunavut.

Le Ranger canadien Peter « Yukon Pete » Jensen, de Dawson, au Yukon, quitte Fort Eureka, sur l’île d’Ellesmere, au Nunavut, en compagnie de sa patrouille qui se dirige vers Alexandra Fiord. En arrière-plan se trouve un CC138 Twin Otter, qui s’occupera de fournir du carburant et des vivres pendant l’opération Nunalivut 2009. Le Ranger Jensen fait partie d’une équipe de huit formée d’instructeurs de Rangers, de Rangers venant de partout dans le Nord et d’un technicien en recherche et sauvetage. Sa patrouille parcourra 715 km dans la toundra arctique et les glaces marines pour se rendre à Alexandra Fiord et en revenir.

L’opération Nunalivut 2009 est l’une des trois opérations de protection du territoire menées annuellement par les Forces canadiennes dans le Nord du Canada. Elle fait appel aux capacités singulières des Rangers canadiens pour appuyer les activités de la
