185 Blows Engine, Lands on Remote Lake

May 31/14-The privately-registered C-185 (C-GPEO) on floats departed Nanaimo Harbour BC for Bamfield BC. While in cruise at 4500 feet ASL the Continental IO 520-D engine failed. A forced approach was carried out onto Fourth Lake. There was no damage to the aircraft and the pilot, the sole occupant, was uninjured. A partial Pan Pan message, from the pilot when on the water, was picked up by ORK103. The pilot activated a 406 ELT. SAR transported the pilot back to Nanaimo. The propeller could not be turned by hand and the oil on the dipstick had metal in it. An SDR will be filed with Transport Canada.
