Nominations are open until March 31 for the Northern Lights Aero Foundation’s Elsie MacGill Awards. Each year the foundation honours women who are leaders or future leaders in their fields. The categories are: Flight Operations (civilian), Government, Business, Education, Pioneer, Engineering, and two Rising Stars. A committee of Canadian aviation luminaries reviews the submissions and the winners will be recognized at a gala held in September. Nominations can be made through the foundation’s Web site.
In addition to the awards program, the foundation actively advocates increased participation in aviation by women. “In support of the mission the Foundation inspires and encourages increased participation of women in these industries by: heightening the visibility of honourees as role models; promoting awareness of the vast opportunities in all sectors; and ensuring organizations recognize and benefit from women’s diverse and untapped talents,” the foundation said in a news release.
