An unauthorized piece of B.C. aviation history now has a permanent home at the B.C. Aviation Museum in Victoria. A 40-year-old mural depicting the pilots and airplanes that plied the West Coast and made the resource, tourism and mining industries possible in that area has been carefully preserved and is now in storage awaiting final display. The mural was created by Jack Schofield, the founder of B.C. Aviator, the magazine that grew into Canadian Aviator Magazine. A full account of the history of the mural will appear in the March/April issue of Canadian Aviator.
A digital reproduction of the mural has been incorporated into the new Port Hardy Airport terminal and the original, an assemblage of acrylic representations on plywood of a truly unique segment of commercial aviation will become part of the museum’s homage to the planes and pilots of that era.
