Airport staff in Edmundston, New Brunswick were able to find the operator of a drone that reportedly came within 50 metres of an air ambulance at the facility. It’s not clear if the aircraft was in the air at the time. The report from the CBC says only that the pilot “saw the drone about 50 metres from his left wing” and that the incident delayed the transfer of a patient by about 20 minutes.
“The pilot quickly contacted the airport supervisor and the drone pilot was found minutes later.” the network quoted a Facebook post from the airport as saying. It’s illegal to fly a drone within 5.6 kilometres of an airport. Transport Canada told CBC it was aware of the incident and was reviewing the complaint “to determine if an investigation is warranted and whether an offence has occurred.”
