Porter Airlines has ordered 20 more Embraer E195-E2 airliners bringing its current firm order book to 50 as it moves to become a continental airline. Porter announced the deal, worth about $2 billion. It also has another 50 purchase rights for the fuel efficient aircraft. “Embraer has a proven aircraft, representing the best of environmental efficiency, operating performance and passenger comfort,” said Porter CEO Bob Deluce. “We are in final preparations to introduce the E195-E2 to North America, joining other global airlines already benefiting from its use.”
Porter will base the Embraers at Pearson International Airport and use the long-legged E195s to reach every corner of the continent and then some. Deluce said the service model will be based on its extraordinarily successful business model established 15 years ago at Billy Bishop City Centre Airport using De Havilland Q400 turboprops. “The aircraft will become core to our fleet, as Porter reshapes passenger expectations for air travel in the same way we did over 15 years ago. Announcements are forthcoming that will detail our initial routes, in-flight product and other details.”
