Harbour Air To Start ‘Wheeled’ Service

Vancouver-based Harbour Air has announced it will begin service between Vancouver International’s South Terminal and Victoria using Twin Otters on wheels. The service begins Nov. 4. The airline curretly uses only floatplanes to service dozens of routes between southern coastal communities. It’s the largest floatplane airline in North America but the distinction comes with severe operating limitations.
Float operations are limited to day VFR and the wheeled service will allow instrument operations and more flexible and reliable service. “We know how much our customers value our product; however, being limited to flying during daylight-only hours has prevented us from operating at key times desired during winter,” said Harbour Air spokesman Chris Fordyce. “The ability to fly in darkness and operate at airports on wheels is a game changer for us and will provide increased convenience for passengers travelling along these routes.”
