This week we are recognizing one of the eight 2026 Elsie award winners. Named after Elsie MacGill, the chief aeronautical engineer at Canadian Car and Foundry who oversaw the production of 1,451 Hawker Hurricanes during the Second World War, these are annual awards given by the Northern Lights Aero Foundation, an organization whose vision is “To be the Premier organization in Canada that inspires, supports, and promotes women in the field of aviation and aerospace.” You can learn more about the organization by clicking here.

Major Nadine Dale, recognized with the Engineering Award
Major Nadine Dale was born in Creelman, Saskatchewan and developed an early passion for aviation through 41 Hercules Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, where she earned both her glider and private pilot’s licences. She later completed a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering at Carleton University before enrolling in the Canadian Armed Forces in 2003 as an Electrical Mechanical Engineering Officer. Over more than two decades of service, Major Dale has held engineering and leadership roles across the Canadian Army and Royal Canadian Air Force, including operational deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. Since transferring to the Air Force as an Aerospace Engineering Officer, she has served with 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron, the Aerospace Engineering Test Establishment and 403 Helicopter Operational Training Squadron, specializing in aircraft maintenance, operational engineering and aerospace test and evaluation. Major Dale currently serves as the Detachment Commanding Officer of 17 Wing Detachment Dundurn in Saskatchewan and recently completed a master’s certificate in change management through Royal Roads University.
