Beaver Crashes in Fog

July 11/17-The float-equipped DHC-2 (Beaver) C-FFRL departed St. John Harbour (west coast of Athlone Island, 12 nm west of Bella Bella) and encountered fog. The aircraft followed the shoreline northward; struck rocks and collided with the shoreline. The pilot and two passengers received serious injuries; the aircraft was destroyed in a post-crash fire. One passenger was uninjured and assisted the others in exiting the aircraft. Medical assistance was given at the site and they were air-lifted to hospital.
