Air Canada Airbus A320-211 – Engine Failure

The Air Canada Airbus A320-211, C-FKCO, operating as ACA396 on a flight from Calgary (CYYC), AB to Montreal (CYUL), QC experienced an engine (CFM International CFM56-5A1 S/N 731775) failure during taxi from the gate to the runway. The aircraft returned to the gate and passengers
were offloaded.
Company maintenance conducted a borescope inspection and noted damage beyond limits on stages 7 and 8 of the high pressure compressor. The engine was removed and findings during the teardown will be relayed to the TSB
