A new initiative to raise funds that will be used to help provide flight training for female pilots has been launched. The Women in Aviation Association (WIAA) has opened a GoFundMe account for the express purpose of soliciting donations in order to fund Commercial Pilot Licence or Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) training for two deserving women each year. WIAA is affiliated with the International Pilot Academy (IPA) of Gatineau, Quebec.
“We need more women on the flight deck…WIAA encourages more females to become professional pilots. Our team is committed to their success,” said IPA’s co-founder and president Jules Selwan.
According to the WIAA, less than six percent of ATPL-rated pilots are women. “We understand and are humbled by the fact that we can’t do this alone, the more help we can get the better.”
