Electrical Arcing Causes Diversion

March 31/14-The Air Wisconsin Canadair CRJ200 (registration N404AW) aeroplane was enroute from Halifax Stanfield (CYHZ) to Philadelphia (KPHL). While enroute and 50 NM SW of Saint John (CYSJ) a smoke smell/odor was noticed in the vicinity of the galley and on the flight deck. The crew followed the quick reference handbook pulling the galley circuit breaker and the odor abated. The crew diverted to Bangor (KBGR) and landed uneventfully. No emergency was declared. Maintenance determined that an electrical wire had disconnected at the rear of the water heater tank and was arcing causing the odor. The aircraft was returned to service after repair.
