Forced Landing on a Ball Field

Aug. 13/14-The United States registered Piper PA-14, N4279H, was on a flight from Red Deer, AB to Grande Prairie, AB with a final destination in Alaska. The flight encountered heavy smoke from forest fires and slowed up due to poor visibility. Near Grande Prairie the pilot reported running out of fuel and was heading for a road for a forced landing. The flight ended on an unoccupied baseball diamond. There was substantial damage to the aircraft; no injuries to the 2 occupants and no post-crash fire.
