Canadian air race and aerobatic pilot Pete McLeod has signed on to be a racer in the World Championship Air Race series, which will take off in 2022. “Super stoked to get to announce I’ll be back in the track in 2022!! World Championship Air Race is kicking off and I’ll have #84 on the grid!!”McLeod announced in a tweet. “Looking forward podiums, smiles, and of course intense moments that racing brings!” McLeod was a veteran of the Red Bull circuit and was known for his aggressive flying style and fierce competitiveness.
The races had been sponsored by Red Bull, which pulled out in 2019. The new series will have the Red Bull format but be run by a partnership between World Championship Air Race and Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI), which is the governing body for air racing. The deal was made in February and dates and locations for the resumption of racing is still being worked out. The schedule will most likely start in March or April of next year.
