Cirrus Aircraft of Minnesota announced last week that their latest piston-engine airplane, the SR Series G7, together with its G2+ Vision Jet, have received Transport Canada – Civil Aviation (TCCA) certification, meaning they are cleared for sale to Canada-based customers.
“Pursuing TCCA certification for the newest Cirrus aircraft models, the SR Series G7 and G2+ Vision Jet, underscores our commitment to the Canadian market, said Cirrus CEO Zean Nielsen. “This certification enables Canadian Cirrus aircraft owners to take delivery of their new Canadian-registered aircraft, further solidifying our presence in the region.”
The SR22 G7 incorporates the Vision Jet flight deck, in which Garmin’s Perspective Touch+ avionics features prominently. The glass cockpit incorporates several touchscreen interfaces.
The G2+ Vision Jet improves upon previous models by enhancing engine performance of the Williams FJ33-5A turbine. A 20-percent improvement in takeoff performance is advertised. Both piston and jet models come with the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS). Garmin’s Safe Return Emergency Autoland system is also available on both models.
To date, Cirrus has delivered over 10,000 SR Series single-engine piston airplanes and almost 600 single-engine Vision Jets worldwide since the first of the SR series, the SR20, hit the market in 1998. It was followed by the SR22 in 2000 and the SR22T (turbocharged) in 2010.
Cirrus has become the world’s largest producer of piston-powered aircraft (since 2013) and the world’s third-largest manufacturer of general aviation aircraft. At one point, the company began work on the Cirrus SRS, an airplane eligible for registration in the Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) category in the U.S. However, the company suspended the program in 2009 and later cancelled it.
With a regional sales director for Canada already in place, Cirrus is expanding its network of authorized flight training and maintenance centres across Canada.
