Nominations Open For Northern Lights Award

Nominations are now being accepted for the Elsie McGill Northern Lights Award honouring the outstanding contributions of women to Canadian aviation.

northernlightsNominees are being accepted in six categories: Flight Operations/Maintenance; Government; Business; Education; Pioneer and Rising Star. Nominations close on March 31.

The awards have been held since 2009 and honour the memory of Elsie McGill, known as Queen of the Hurricanes. She was the first female aircraft designer and worked on the Canadian-built Hawker Hurricane during the Second World War. She was later appointed to the Royal Commission on the Status of Women and named and Officer of the Order of Canada.

A panel of aviation industry experts and veterans will choose the winners and the awards will be presented at a gala evening in September, details of which will be announced later.
