One Dead In Beaver Crash

May 21/13-At about 1700 PDT, hunters travelling southwest-bound from Bute Inlet to Vancouver Bay (west side of Stuart Island) spotted a pair of aircraft floats upside down in the water in Vancouver Bay (Campbell River, 25 nm N). The hunters attended and observed a sunken DHC-2 Beaver drifting with the ebb tide. The JRCC – Victoria was alerted at 1723 PDT. A DND SAR Cormorant helicopter on a training flight in the area was tasked to respond and arrived at the site at 1745. SAR divers confirmed one POB – deceased. The aircraft was equipped with a 121.5 Mhz ELT; no transmission was received.
