Porter Airlines says it’s planning to resume operation June 21 after suspending flights more than a year ago due to the pandemic. Although it’s based in Toronto, which is currently experiencing some serious pandemic problems, the airline says it’s hopeful that will all be behind it by early summer. We are looking ahead to summer and preparing for the possibility of some travel restrictions unwinding,” said Porter CEO Michael Deluce. “We will begin the process of rebuilding our operations as soon as conditions allow based on government decisions.”
Unlike some other Canadian airlines, Porter decided to shut down until the pandemic passed and had been hoping to get back to flying May 19. That was pushed back a month and Deluce said he’s hopeful it will stick. “In recent weeks, there has been open discussion by government officials about easing travel restrictions based on expectations that vaccination programs will be well advanced in the U.S. and Canada by early summer.”
