While a lot of talk about the RCAF has centred around its aging fighter fleet, the Air Force has been busy using the aircraft it has to defend Canada and its allies. The RCAF announced last week that CF-18 fighters and the 135 people that keep them flying will return from a four month deployment to Romania this month. The task force was mostly fom 425 Tactical Fighter Squadron in Bagotville, Quebec with personnel from 2 Air Expeditionary Wing and 3 Wing.
Canada routinely deploys aircraft overseas in support of NATO and other allied operations. It’s sent task forces to Romania three times, to Lithuania and to Iceland in the last five years.
