  • The National Airlines Council of Canada (NACC) together with IATA, are set to host ‘Aviation Day Canada’ on October 29 at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. The event is meant to raise awareness of the crucial role that aviation plays in Canada. Panelists will include airline CEOs and other senior aviation industry leaders.

  • Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Renee Hansen has been appointed Command CWO, making her the senior non-commissioned officer (NCO) of the RCAF, the first woman to hold the post. “Everything I’ve done has prepared me for where I am today. I didn’t do things that were comfortable or ‘easy’. I learned to embrace the unknown and accept those opportunities and use them to grow professionally and personally.”

  • Toronto’s Skyservice Business Aviation has started construction of its 13th FBO (fixed base operator) facility, this one in Napa, California. “We are thrilled to begin construction of our new private jet centre in Napa,” Benjamin Murray, Skyservice’s president and CEO, said. Included in the 60,000 sq-ft facility is a 40,000 sq-ft hangar, a roof-top restaurant, office space and a nine-acre ramp, all located on 15 acres of airport land.

  • The Reno Air Race Association has announced dates for the 2025 National Championship Air Races (NCAR). The event will take place from September 10 through 14 in Roswell, New Mexico. This will be the first NCAR event to be held at its new home in the southern U.S. state. “Since we wrapped our 60thanniversary air show [in Reno, Nevada], we’re invigorated by the fact that we’re hosting the air races in a brand-new venue in Roswell,” said RARA president and CEO Tony Logoteta.

  • St. John’s, Newfoundland couple admitted to defrauding CASARA (Civil Aviation Search and Rescue) of over $82,000 in provincial court on October 16. Brian and Marina Bishop, 74 and 71 respectively, held senior roles with the volunteer organization since the 1980s. Their fraudulent  activities included diverting federal funds meant to help with CASARA expenses into their personal bank accounts as well as making fraudulent expense claims for flights that did not occur. The couple have since paid back the money. Sentencing will take place in coming days.

  • With Air Canada pilots having ratified the proposed contract with Air Canada, Air Transat pilots have advised their employer to be ready for a similar agreement come next year. “Air Transat pilots begin contract negotiations with Air Transat management in January and strongly encourage our management team to follow in the footsteps of Air Canada by acknowledging the market trends in the aviation sector and recognizing the value, skill and experience our pilots bring to the airline and our passengers daily.
