April 25/13A privately-registered basic ultralight Ries Azuro, C-IEOG, was en route at 1500 feet asl when the flight encountered severe turbulence and the pilot could not maintain aircraft control. The aircraft descended and collided with terrain. The pilot was seriously injured and the passenger sustained minor injuries. The aircraft was substantially damaged.
