$10,000 Scholarship for Women of Aviation Week

The top prize for women taking part in next March’s Women of Aviation Worldwide Week is a $10,000 CAD scholarship for qualifying female student pilots to continue their flight training. The next week-long effort, March 2-8, 2020, will mark the 10th anniversary of the advocacy program and is made possible by simulator and training provider CAE, which is a “Corporate Ally” of the Institute for Women of Aviation Worldwide (iWAOW). “Engaging and inspiring women and girls is only the first step to changing the face of aviation,” said founder and president Mireille Goyer. “Turning sparks into life-long passions is the second step. That’s why iWOAW rewards the winner of the Second Step Challenge with a Fly It Forward® scholarship every year.”

To qualify for the scholarship, women of any age must take a flight during the anniversary week. There will be hundreds of events at airports all over the world where volunteer pilots will be flying girls and women (age 10 and older) for free in the Fly It Forward Challenge but they can also go to a local flight school and take a discovery flight. The flight must be registered online with iWOAW. Those who then take the “second step” of taking flying lessons are eligible for the scholarship by becoming the first to solo after their 2020 initial flight. Complete details are available here.
