Airbus Helicopters is forming a partnership with the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) to develop aerospace training programs. The Fort Erie, Ontario-based division of the aerospace giant will provide faculty and the student body with state-of-the-art training tools and technologies for its Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) program, offered at SIIT’s Aviation Learning Centre at the Saskatoon airport.
“Access to this equipment means our students can build their skills with technology connected to the aircraft they may encounter in the industry,” SIIT CEO Riel Bellegarde said.
Donated equipment includes H135 flight control, main gearbox, tail unit and fuel systems. This equipment was also used as part of the RCAF’s Future Aircraft Training (FAcT) program. Airbus also donated a portable Helionix Advanced Tool Simulator (HATS) designed for realistic avionics and cockpit training.
“SIIT is doing important work to equip Indigenous learners with the skills and opportunities they need to build successful careers in aerospace, and we are proud to support that work,” said Dwayne Charette, president of Airbus Helicopters (Canada). “By bringing H135 training capability to SIIT, we are investing not only in students today, but in the strength and growth of Canada’s aerospace workforce for years to come.”
SIIT is the largest credit-granting Indigenous post-secondary institution in Canada, and the exclusive provider of AME training in Saskatchewan. Click here for a short video describing SIIT’s AME program.
