Delta A350 Sideswipes Air Canada 777

An Air Canada Boeing 777 was being towed to its assigned gate at Los Angeles’ LAX airport on Tuesday (October 6) when the left wing of a Delta Air Lines Airbus A350 clipped the 777’s horizontal stabilizer, slicing through it and leaving a piece of the A350’s wingtip embedded in the 777.

“We just felt a shudder there. Is everything looking ok?” the pilot of the Air Canada plane asked a ground controller in audio recorded by ATC.com. “It looks like we are having an issue with the wing tip,” remarked the Delta pilot to the controller. “I don’t know if you can see from your position.”

The Air Canada flight, AC785, had just arrived from Toronto. The Delta flight was headed to Tokyo. Both aircraft were taken out of service for inspections and repairs.

No injuries were reported, and the FAA is investigating the accident.
