2018-09-12
C-FHKP, an Embraer ERJ 190-100 aircraft operated by Air Canada, was conducting flight ACA525 from Boston/General Edward Lawrence Logan Intl, MA (KBOS) to Toronto/Lester B. Parson Intl, ON (CYYZ). During the climb to cruising altitude after the departure from KBOS, the flight crew noted a burning smell in the cockpit.
The smell dissipated for a short time, but subsequently returned. Consequently, the flight crew declared a PAN PAN with Toronto Center. Descending through 1800 feet while on radar vectors for Runway 06L, the flight crew received an EICAS message PACK 1 FAULT and the smell dissipated.
The flight landed without further incident, was inspected by AARF and then taxied to the gate.
The operator’s maintenance replaced the L/H Air Cycle Machine (ACM) in accordance with the applicable Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM).
