Cessna 170 Training Flight – Takeoff Incident

2018-04-15

C-GHFE, a privately registered Cessna 170 aircraft, was on a local VFR training flight out of Barrhead, AB (CEP3). During the take-off run on Runway 07, the aircraft began to drift to the right.
The student corrected, but the aircraft swerved to the left. The instructor attempted to take control in order to keep the aircraft on the runway, however the aircraft departed the left side of the runway and struck a 3-foot high frozen snow bank. The left main landing gear collapsed and the propeller struck the snow bank. The aircraft sustained substantial damage.

Both the instructor and the student exited the aircraft with no injuries
