Jazz Aviation – DHC-8-300 – Hyddraulic Leak – Emergency

C-FACF, a De Havilland DHC-8-300 operated by Jazz Aviation LP as flight JZA697 with 3 crew members and 42 passengers on board was on the initial climb out of Sept-îles (CYZV) QUE when the flight crew heard a loud bang in the nose wheel area and noted the number 2 hydraulic ISO
with associated nose gear caution lights illuminated followed by a drop to 1 quart of the hydraulic quantity. The crew carried out the appropriate emergency checklist procedure and requested a
return to CYZV where an uneventful landing was carried out. Maintenance personnel found a hole in the landing gear drag strut actuator hydraulic line. The line was replaced as per AMM 20-06-03.
The number 2 hydraulic system was replenished and leak checks were completed with no further faults.
The test flight was completed satisfactorily; the aircraft was returned in service
