Earlier this week (Oct. 19) Chorus Aviation announced the purchase of Ontario’s SkyCare. The air operator, based in Sioux Lookout, is Northern Ontario’s largest operator of fixed-wing air ambulances. It also offers passenger and cargo charter services both domestically and in the United States.
With bases in Thunder Bay, Kitchener and St. Andrews (Manitoba), the company generated $48 million in revenue in 2025. SkyCare operates a mixed fleet comprising piston-powered Piper Navajos, Metroliner turboprops and Westwind and Astra small jets.
“The acquisition of SkyCare is a strong strategic fit for Chorus, adding a complementary operation with long-standing customer relationships and specialized aviation capabilities as we continue to build out our aviation, aerospace and defence platform,” Chorus’s CEO Colin Copp said.
SkyCare was founded by Frank Behrendt in 2005 and employs around 220 people, including aviation staff and primary care professionals.
“Over the past 20 years, our aviation and medical professionals have built SkyCare into the company it is today,” said Behrendt. “Becoming part of Chorus provides a strong platform for our continued growth while allowing us to build on the relationships, expertise and culture that have been central to our success.”
Chorus Aviation of Halifax, Nova Scotia, owns Jazz Aviation, Voyageur Aviation, the Cygnet Aviation Academy, Elison & Associates and KADEX Aero Supply.
