Porter Pilots Get U$2 Million Grant

The group representing the over 900 Porter Airlines pilots in contract negotiations has received a grant, not a loan, of U$2 million from their union, the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA). The move was approved unanimously by the union’s executive board and comes from its Major Contingency Fund. It is intended to provide Porter pilots further resources, if needed, as they enter a critical phase in the contract negotiations with their employer.

“This grant is a decisive show of strength and solidarity and demonstrates that Porter pilots have the full backing of the Association to go the distance until our pilots have secured the contract we’ve earned,” according to Captain Brian Smith, the Porter Airlines Master Executive Council chairman. “Our first contract will be the foundation that will shape how Porter pilots are valued.”

Porter and their pilots are approaching federal conciliation deadlines and are planning an informational picket at Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport, scheduled for Wednesday, November 18.

“We will not back down until we achieve a contract that recognizes and rewards the skill, professionalism, and commitment we bring to this airline every day,” said Smith.
