PAL Airlines – Bombardier Dash 8-100 – Nose Gear Indicator

C-FDND, a Bombardier Dash 8-100 aircraft operated by PAL Airlines, was conducting flight
PVL1902 from Sept-Iles, QC (CYZV) to Wabush, NL (CYWK). During the approach into CYWK,
the flight crew received a nose landing gear unsafe indication when the landing gear was selected down. The flight crew entered a hold over CYWK in order to complete the necessary checklists and to burn fuel. An emergency was declared and the aircraft landed without further incident. After the landing, the aircraft remained on the runway to deplane passengers since the nose gear pin could not be secured in place.
The operator’s maintenance discovered a cracked and broken support bracket which affected the actuator position. The nose landing gear was in motion, however it did not fully travel over the center and locked position. A repair plan is in progress for the aircraft to be returned to service.
